These innovative shoes feature rubber loops on the soles to cushion the impact and then help the runner push off

Swiss sports company, On, designs shoes that make runners feel like they’re running on clouds. The young company recently walked away with a product design award at the biennial Design Prize Switzerland.

These innovative shoes feature rubber loops on the soles to cushion the impact and then help the runner push off. Land soft, push off hard – that’s the core idea behind On’s running shoes.

On was founded only three years ago by three creators, all united by their love of running as well as their goal to create the perfect product. After many experiments (some even involving a garden hose) the technology was perfected. They then needed a designer to give the shoe a visual language that matched this groundbreaking technology, and employed the services of up-and-coming Swiss designers Alex Thilo Brunner.

The international jury of the Design Prize Switzerland was impressed. “The straightforward design of the shoe deliberately refrains from indulgence in stylistic frills, and is wholly consistent in focusing on the basic functional requirements,” one representative commented. “The attention is drawn to the sole, which here constitutes the crucially important element.”

On produces shoes in four categories, depending on the runner’s skill and preference. All are available in a selection of bright laces and matching details.
